ellie's birthday extravaganza

It's been about a year since I jumped in the car with Caroline to make the quick drive up from Chicago to Milwaukee. Excited doesn't even begin to describe the feeling in my bones, knowing that in just a few short hours I would finally get to meet my niece. I remember like it was yesterday. I remember what we were listening to on the radio (The Band Perry). I remember walking so quickly down the hospital corridors I was getting winded (normal). I remember the first time I laid eyes on the most perfect miniature human being God had ever blessed my life with (breathtaking). From the second I saw her, I knew I was in love.

Okay, maybe I'm a little obsessed. Maybe even a lot obsessed. Maybe I think Ellie loves me, cuddles me, smiles at me, laughs for me, more than anyone else in the family. And maybe that's okay because the absolute and unconditional love that I have for Miss Elizabeth Anne is completely and utterly mind-blowing.

Yes, I love my mom and my dad. I love my sister. I even really, really love my husband. But that kind of love just doesn't even compare to this. Ellie is perfect in my eyes - tantrums, dirty diapers, boogers and all. She is just perfect.

(Steps down from soapbox)

This past weekend, we had the pleasure of traveling to Milwaukee to celebrate year one of Elizabeth Anne's wonderful little life and to thank Anne and Brian for bringing her into this world.

We kicked off the weekend festivities with a boat ride down the Milwaukee River and out onto Lake Michigan. We didn't let the inclement weather get us down and by the end of the tour, Mr. Sun was showing his shining face once again.

Post boat ride, we headed back to the Dranka homestead to set up for the main event. Before we knew it, guests were arriving and it was time to celebrate.

Soon after the gift opening, it was time to get down and dirty. And down and dirty did we get.

Fresh off a serious sugar hangover, we spent Sunday down at the lakefront taking in the sights and sounds of the Milwaukee Art Festival. The museum's exhibit du jour was called "Posters of Paris", which meant there was a Frenchie theme throughout much of the festival. The signature drink was even called "The Toulouse." Of course, we took that as a sign that a) Toulouse is indeed the right fit and b) we should absolutely order several of the above mentioned cocktails.

We couldn't have asked for better weather or better company throughout the weekend. Ellie, thanks for turning one. Anne and Brian, thank you for having and raising such a beautiful little lady.

talerico time

We spent Sunday afternoon in the Playa Vista park enjoying a picnic and not so much enjoying a Michael Jackson tribute band with the Derrick, Tricia and the Talerico tots.

The music was subpar (I will give credit for the number of costume changes and attempted choreography) but the company was absolutely wonderful and we couldn't have asked for better weather. We were especially happy to finally meet the newest member of the Talerico family - Mr. Miles.
