thirty + six

Early July 2014:

The men in my life have now reached a combined age of 36. I don't know what's crazier - the fact that Andy is 30 or that my little boyfriend, Harry Winston, is 6. Time flies, that's for sure. We were lucky enough to be in the Chicagoland area for Andy's 30th birthday, meaning he got to celebrate (early) with some of his first and oldest friends, and a slew of our favorite family members.

As you may have noticed above, all three of Andy's friend's wives (L to R: Tabitha, Lindsay, and Kylee) are expecting. It was such a blessing to spend some quality time with these moms-and-dads-to-be during this unique season of their lives!

My in-laws graciously helped in the shopping and preparation of the Backyard BBQ Birthday party, as I was en route back from  my weekend in Minnesota. Caroline baked her famous Red Velvet Cupcakes, Ron manned the grill, and Ann staged everything perfectly.

My favorite part of the day might have been when we unearthed Andy's famous dinosaur picture and said famous dinosaur. From three to 30…

On Andy's actual birthday, we headed into the city for a family dinner at Rick Bayless' Frontera Grill. From apps to drinks to entrees to 'zerts, everything was perfect. The gorgeous Chicago evening could have only been better had the US Men's Soccer team ousted Belgium in the World Cup match.

The day AFTER Andy's birthday might have been an even bigger deal as we celebrated our little white woof turning six. Naturally, he got a pupcake. And loved it. Despite the look of uncertainty on his small face.

Next up - a Fourth of July weekend in Iowa City. Andy in Iowa. Eating pork-on-a-stick. And shopping at Hy-vee. What could be better?
